The tremendous Tabea Herzog with her daughter Nyima (10 months). Tabea enjoyed being pregnant and says that during her last six weeks of pregnancy Nyima really began to prepare herself for delivery. She dropped low and engaged and when it came time Tabea's labor and delivery was only a couple of hours from onset to arrival. Tabea split towards the front during delivery and tore her clitoris which has led to a long and painful recovery. She says that her visible body has not changed much through pregnancy and postpartum but bringing awareness to the invisible changes is just as important. Her sexuality is entirely different now and though she says she is not having much sex these days even having intimate thoughts brings her pain now rather than pleasure.
Tabea also has newfound identity and empowerment in breastfeeding. She was told that if her daughter was nursing more than 7 times a day, she wasn't making enough milk and that she needed to cover up while nursing. She always knew that wasn't right and when another woman encouraged her to just feed her baby when she was hungry and allow her to eat uncovered she felt empowered enough to just trust her instincts and let her baby feed. She is now able to nurse in public without any shame or self-consciousness and hopes to allow her daughter to nurse until she finds herself ready to wean.
