The amazing Sarah Rinke with her son Liam (11 mo). Liam was a bit of a surprise as Sarah used both contraception and the morning after pill to prevent pregnancy and now refers to Liam as her little miracle who insisted on being hers. When she was a few months along, she started having flashback related to a trauma she had suppressed as a child. When Sarah was 11, she was molested by her stepfather and he threatened to harm her mother and brother if she ever told; so she never did. With this trauma resurfacing and her depression spiraling, she decided that she did not want to keep her baby and went through the steps to find him an adoptive family. When she was about 8 months along Sarah started taking anti-depressants and very much changed her mind about her role as a babies mother. She chose to keep Liam and while managing her trauma, recovery and depression has been a struggle she credits motherhood for saving her life. Sarah had a long labor and pushed for 6 hours before Liam was born with vacuum assistance. She worked hard to get him to breastfeed through issues with latch and actually found that introducing a bottle that mimics the breast allowed him to correct his latch and nurse more successfully. Sarah is a student and single mother who has amazing support from her extended family.
