The amazing Nikki Patrick with her daughter Grace (21 months). Nikki is also expecting another son, Brendan, in January 2015. Nikki is a sexual abuse survivor who spent the first 18 years of her life feeling as if her body was not her own. She has also recovered from a 15 year battle with anorexia and bulimia but still bears the scars from feeding tube surgeries. Nikki's first pregnancy, with her son Aiden, was lost to second trimester miscarraige in April of 2011. She went on to have several more early losses until she finally conceived her daughter Grace. Nikki had discovered she had a blood clotting disorder and with it adequately treated she was able to sustain a healthy pregnancy. She struggled with severe hyperemsis throughout her pregnancy with Grace and had a difficult time as she neared the weeks in which she lost Aiden. She was able to carry to term and went post dates. She had an induction and Grace arrived in about 24 hours with about 2 hours of pushing. Grace wasn't breathing when she was born and was taken away so Nikki didn't get the sweet baby on her chest moment she had hopped to have. With her abuse triggers, Nikki didn't plan on breastfeeding, but when Grace was finally given to her she crawled up to her breast and she was sold. Breastfeeding has been incredibly healing for her and she is enjoying the relationship with Grace. Her pregnancy with Brendan has been totally different than her previous ones, she emotionally struggled with having another son but is doing well now. She is on a Zofran pump to manage her hyperemisis this time around and is planning a much more natural delivery with midwifery care. She is looking forward to tandem nursing Grace and Brendan.
