The gorgeous Joanna Gueller with her sons, Gram (3) and Henry (2). Joanna had healthy pregnancies with each of her boys and she had vaginal deliveries in hospital with them both. Her labor with Gram was quick but steady, she chose to have an epidural and he was born in the afternoon. He was born 3 1/2 weeks early but was healthy and able to stay with her. Joanna says that when he was born she was crying and shaking with pure joy. Her labor and delivery with Henry was much faster and very intense. She labored and he was born during the night and she wasn't able to utilize medication this time. When he was born she didn't feel that immediate joy and connection and while she felt guilty at first, realized that sometimes, it just takes time. Joanna initiated breastfeeding with both of her boys. She is a working mother and found pumping to be very difficult. Being busy and away she wasn't able to keep up supply and ended up switching to formula at 6 months with Gram and 3.5 months with Henry. Joanna has felt a lot of pressure since becoming a mother with the "versus mentality" between working/stay at home mothers and breastfeeding/formula feeding mothers. She doesn't feel this amongst her friend group but from the internet and world at large and wishes that she could parent and be accepted in a way where all mothers are supported for simply doing what is best for themselves and their families.
