Ashley Haji -Hassanzadeh with baby Leila Rose (1). Ashley had placenta previa and had planned for a cesarean through much her pregnancy. At 38 weeks her placenta moved up the two inches needed to deliver vaginally. Ashley had a lot of edema and went 5 days post dates. She was supposed to come into the hospital for a soft induction but was sent home due to lack of space. 4 hours later the hospital called her back and then started pitocin and broke her water. Ashley labored for several hours before requesting an epidural. She slept for an hour and woke up ready to push. Ashley pushed for three hours in all positions: squatting, pulling, over the bed. Leila turned sideways in the birth canal and Ashley had to be prepped for a cesarean. Ashley bled out on the table and had to stay in the OR for two hours while they stitched her up and dealt with her fever and low blood pressure. She had to have a blood transfusion two days later. Leila latched well once Ashley got to recovery but with all the trauma she'd dealt with her supply was never as she needed it to be. She pumped and supplemented for Leila's first month before deciding that she'd done all she could do. It was an honor to capture the bond between these two today!
