The gorgeous Gretchen Pinkerton with her sons Elliot (3) and Henry (1 today!) Gretchen got pregnant with her first at 35 thinking it was now or never. She had a healthy pregnancy and had hoped for to have a vaginal, medication free delivery. Her water broke at term but she was slow to progress. At the hospital she dilated fully but he just wasn't coming so she opted for an epidural and cesarean delivery. The delivery went well but Gretchen had a fever so Elliot was taken away for 6 hours before she could see him. The separation was very difficult for her and she felt that her entire time in the hospital was a fight. In addition, her incision became infected and she had a rough 12 week recovery. She continued to nurse Elliot until he was 22 months old and she was pregnant with Henry even though it had been difficult. She says she is stubborn and it wasn't until he was 11 months old that he was diagnosed with a tongue and lip tie they were able to revise. She had a healthy pregnancy with Henry as well and hoped for a VBAC. Gretchen's water broke again prior to the onset of labor and she waited a bit before deciding to head to the hospital with an open mind. If she was dilated and contracting she would attempt her VBAC and if she was not she would head straight for a cesarean in hopes of avoiding the separation between she and her baby this time. She hadn't dilated when they arrived so they chose a repeat cesarean birth. Things went well and she was able to hold Henry right on the table and stay with him during recovery. Breastfeeding has gone well and she hopes to continue nursing Henry until he's ready to wean. Gretchen struggled with the changes in her body following Elliot's birth and then again through her pregnancy and postpartum period with Henry. She's recently taken a step back, though and realized that she will never be the same Gretchen she was prior to having her boys and she hopes to shift into a place of love and celebration instead.
