The lovely LeeAnn Parish with her daughters Kivrin (2 years) and Quinn (2 months). LeeAnn says that she always wanted to be a mother and was often complimented for being maternal. She was surprised then when she conceived and found that she did not enjoy being pregnant at all. It wasn't that she was sick or had complications, simply that she struggled and felt disconnected. In hindsight, she thinks that she may have had some pregnancy related depression. She had a midwife assisted birth in hospital with a doula and her husband by her side and said that everything was wonderful. LeeAnn didn't struggle with her second pregnancy as much as her first but says that she thinks the main difference was that she knew what to look out for. She was able to deliver with the same team of providers and had another wonderful delivery. LeeAnne is currently tandem nursing her girls and while she says she would be okay being done nursing her toddler but continues to do what she knows is best for her. LeeAnn joined this movement to be part of the conversation, she says that motherhood is really hard and some days it feels like hell, not because she doesn't love her children or love being a mother but because it isn't easy and it isn't always pretty. Talking about it helps her and she hopes that by talking about it she'll be able to help other women.
