The amazing Kalene Bell with her boys Colin (6.5) and Logan (3.5). Kalene is a young single mother who go pregnant the first time at 17 while she was still in high school. She was drinking, using drugs, self-harming, doing poorly in school and just hated herself. The day she found out she was pregnant, her entire life changed and she was able to sober up and graduate on time. She had a healthy first pregnancy but had to be induced at 41+ weeks. She labored for about 8 hours pushing for about 45 minutes but broke her tailbone and tore severely in the process. Thankfully, she had birthed a perfectly healthy baby boy. When Colin was 3, she found out she was pregnant again but she was still living with her mother and not all ready for another child but here she was. She had some bleeding issues starting at 10 weeks and had nightmares she was going to lose her baby. Because of her difficulty in Colin's birth and a suspicion that this baby would be even bigger than her previous almost 10 pound baby, they induced her a week early. She only labored for 6 hours this time and pushed for 10 minutes but when Logan came out, he was purple and silent. They whisked him away and thankfully, with some oxygen, he was okay, though he never did cry. Logan developed very typically until he was about 18 months old when he suddenly started to lose all of his words. He was eventually diagnosed with Autism and is non-verbal but has been making some great strides with therapy. Kalene suspects her older son also has Asperger's but he's never been officially diagnosed. Kalene's mother recently moved in with her and the boys so that she can focus on Logan full time.
