The amazing Amy Foster, Evan (6), Lane (almost 4), and Beau (20 months). Amy also lost her first pregnancy to miscarriage at 10 weeks.
Amy and her husband waited about a year after getting married to start trying for a baby. She wasn't able to get into her OB for several months and when she did her OB told her to stop trying and get on birth control right away. The reason being, she had a uterine fibroid the size of a grapefruit. They wanted to schedule surgery to remove it but Amy learned she was already pregnant. In a time when she hoped to be over the moon with happiness, Amy says that everything was "gloom and doom". Her progesterone levels were low, which they treated but nobody seemed to think it was a viable pregnancy. At 10 weeks, there was no heartbeat and they decided to let her body miscarry naturally. Amy bled for two months straight and it was determined that she had retained part of the placenta. The surgery to remove her fibroid required a transverse, abdominal incision and she was told that any future pregnancies would need to be delivered via scheduled cesarean to minimize the stress on her uterus.
Amy's second pregnancy with Evan went well, though she needed progesterone in the beginning this time as well. Lane's also required some watching and she says that her pregnancy with Beau went smoothly. Amy's cesarean births were uncomplicated though her recovery was quite different each time. Her last being the most difficult because she was already tired caring for her Kindergartener and toddler going into it.
Breastfeeding has been important to Amy and she's had an easy go of things with each of her boys. Evan weaned at 12 months, Lane at 13 months, and Beau is still nursing today. Amy isn't totally certain if he is their last baby, but she thinks so, and has found that has changed the moments and milestones, she finds herself holding on to everything a little bit more this time.
Amy has struggled with her own body image and negative self talk throughout her life. She's in a place where she appreciates her body more than she did before children, even though it looks much different. She wants to lead by example in self love for her sons and this is part of that journey.
