The wonderful Meghan Warfuel, currently 31 weeks pregnant, and Shain (almost 4). Meghan has also had two miscarriages.
Meghan's first pregnancy was lost to early miscarriage which led her to wonder if she would ever go on to have a successful pregnancy. She conceived Shain soon after but worried with the unknowns of losing her as well. Meghan knew early on that she wanted to have a birth outside of the medical system as long as everyone was healthy. While she appreciates that interventions are there when needed she wanted her care managed differently if she was able. Thankfully, she found a wonderful birthing center within her community and had a very peaceful and straightforward birth with Shain.
Meghan had been in school to become a Physician's Assistant during her pregnancy and assumed that she would return to work after about 8 weeks. The time flew by and she realized she just couldn't leave her baby so soon. She's grateful she was able to take a leave of absence from her schooling and stay home with her daughter for her first 14 months. This allowed them to build a beautiful breastfeeding relationship that continued until Shain self-weaned during her pregnancy. When she returned she was able to finish her schooling and begin her career feeling very positive about both.
Meghan lost another pregnancy to miscarriage just before she conceived this baby but everything happened so quickly, before she'd even had a cycle. This pregnancy has been going very well and she plans to deliver at the same birthing center. Meghan is close friends with her midwife and the birthing center is a communal community where all the care providers live on site. She says this set up and relationship have allowed her care to feel very normative and part of her daily life. She just goes to visit and at some point they check her blood pressure and tones.
After watching friends participate and this movement grow, Meghan knew she also wanted to share her story. She was an athlete in college and always focused on the strength of her body in sport but she's strong in a different way now. While Meghan is generally happy with her body she has a difficult time with it during her pregnancies when she feels more uncomfortable and larger than she's used to. She knew that if she wanted to do this, capturing this moment, where she struggles most was so important to honor.
