The beautiful Heather Nischke with her boys Sam (4) and Harper (18 months). Sam is biologically Heather's nephew, but she and her husband have raised him and their adoption will be final very soon. She was the one who cut his cord and held him while his biological mother recovered and she was happy to step in when he needed her. Heather's pregnancy with Harper was healthy other than regular pregnancy aches and pains until her 36 week check up. She was determined to have very high blood pressure, diagnosed with preeclampsia and sent to the hospital for monitoring. She was discharged and told to remain on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy but after being home for less than an hour her water broke and Harper was born the next day. He spent about 2 weeks in the NICU due to breathing/apnea issues and was sent home on a monitor for his first 6 months. Heather was not able to get him to latch and has pumped exclusively for the past 18 months. Harper will be having his lip tie and umbilical hernia repaired closer to his second birthday and Heather hopes to directly breastfeed baby number three!
