The wonderful Steffany Kaminski and her baby girl, Jordin (13 months). Steffany had a wonderful pregnancy with Jordin right up until the very end. She went post dates and had to be induced. She wasn't responding to the Pitocin and Jordin's heart rate was dropping drastically every time she tried to rest. She ultimately had to deliver Jordin via emergency cesarean. Jordin was healthy is still breastfeeding today, but Steffany's road to recovery was very difficult. She struggled with pain management and lack of information on how to take care of her wound. Her cesarean incision opened and became infected although she was able to be treated without a revision. It took her a full year to seek out help, but Steffany has been seeing a physical therapist who is helping her to learn how to heal and strengthen her abdominal muscles. Like so many women we've worked with, Steffany and I talked about the disappointing lack of knowledge and care for women's physical health and healing postpartum.
