The amazing Alisa Wagner Poage with Sedona (4) and Juniper (5 months). Alisa had healthy pregnancies with each of her girls. Sedona arrived with midwife assistance in a birthing center and things went very well and progressed rather quickly. Sedona was very large though at almost 10 lbs, and the aftermath was quite traumatic. Alisa suffered a 4th degree tear as well as a hemorrage and and lost 70+% of her blood volume. She was rushed to the attached hospital where she underwent surgery to place 250 stiches and had 2 blood transfusions. As she was recovering she was able to initiate breastfeeding and Sedona self weaned at about 20 months. Alisa was encouraged to consider a cesarean when she became pregnant with Juniper but she chose to instead try to grow a smaller baby. She watched what she ate and eliminated grains and sugar from her diet. This time, she was able to give birth to her daughter in the water with only a 2nd degree tear and she had in fact grown a smaller baby, a full 2lbs lighter than her sister. The entire experience was wonderfully healing and she is so grateful she was able to have it. Breastfeeding this time has gone beautifully as well.
