The stunning Kristi Spurgeon, Elanor (4.5), and Cora (1.5).
Kristi had healthy pregnancies with each of her girls but found herself quite uncomfortable throughout. Elanor arrived on her due date and Cora a bit early; both were born vaginally in hospital. Breastfeeding was something that Kristi always thought would just happen for her because that's what everyone says but it was difficult and incredibly painful at first. They worked through the cracked, bleeding nipples and she continued to nurse Elanor in part because that was what she had committed to doing. It was great but it was also a lot of hard work. As a working mom she was also pumping and continued until Elanor was just over a year old. Kristi says that it was all very stressful and intense, she was doing what she thought was best but it was also so much pressure.
Kristi's nursing experience with Cora was much different. She had a very laid back baby and found herself to be much more relaxed as well. They moved cities, houses and jobs just after Cora was born and life was very busy. Kristi nursed and pumped in her early months, then supplemented and eventually switched to formula. Everyone was just fine and she was so much less stressed! Sharing her experience is so important to Kristi so that other women know that there is a wide range of experience and all are normal.
As the mother of two daughters, Kristi hopes to raise them to love themselves and their bodies. She is dedicated to having a home free from body shame and negative commentary. She's doing her best to lead by example and hopes that some day, her girls will look back on this experience and these photographs with awe and pride.
