"I have often felt ashamed, my body isn’t perfect, and my skin is no longer smooth but is now covered in “glitter stripes”.
Postpartum with my first was great. I felt great, I thought I looked good, I thought I was rocking mommyhood. Postpartum with my second was horrible. I really struggled to find myself and take care of my kids. My oldest has ADHD and SPD and dealing with this and a newborn was hard, I started going to therapy just to have some one to talk to. Struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety really made me nervous about my third, but I feel like I’m doing well, even though it’s been stressful.
The first time I participated I was a new Mom to a one year old. I thought the project was cool and wanted to stand with these beautiful people. When I went to my session, seeing Ashlee and Nova nursing was the very first time I had ever seen anyone breastfeed so freely and comfortably, as it should be. After my session I realized this was so much more. Mothers go through a lot in nine months and the transition after is even harder. We need to stop this nagging expectation that we need to hide if we aren’t perfect."
