The radiant Rachel Boland Perez and her son William “Asher” (2.5 years). Rachel’s first pregnancy ended in miscarriage in her first trimester. It took some time to conceive her son but she was able to have a healthy pregnancy. She was induced in hospital and things were going well as labor progressed slowly over the course of two days, surrounded by family. Asher’s heart rate was being monitored and at one point it spiked to a level she knew he’d rested at before. She wasn’t concerned, nor was anyone else, until a doctor rushed in and told her she needed to go to surgery to have her baby. Rachel felt educated enough to tell him no but he continued to push and even took her husband to a separate room to tell him that if she didn’t deliver immediately they would be putting their son at risk for brain damage or even death. Her husband listened to the doctor and was upset with Rachel for not agreeing to deliver right away. The doctor eventually left and she was able to rest. When a new shift of doctors and midwives came on they reviewed her records and agreed that there was no cause for concern and labor could continue to progress on it’s own. She was able to bring Asher earth side without complication on her own. Rachel and Asher have had a beautiful breastfeeding relationship and she hopes to continue until he self weans. She is very newly pregnant and hoping for a healthy pregnancy. She experienced some spotting but her hormone levels are great and she’ll have an early ultrasound tomorrow to check in and see if all is well.
