The amazing Ashley Hoffman and her daughter Charlotte (11 months). Ashley went off of birth control when she and her husband decided they were ready to grow their family but she didn't have a period for a full year after. She began to get very discouraged and tried to focus on herself and being healthy and active rather than dwell upon it. Once her cycle returned she was able to get pregnant within just a couple of months and had a very healthy pregnancy. Ashley was lucky to be pregnant the same time as her best friend so they were able to share in a lot. They ran a half-marathon together when Ashley was 20 weeks pregnant and they took Bradley classes together with their husbands. Ashley had been seeing the OBGYN's she had always seen for most of her pregnancy and realized at some point that she wasn't feeling cared for. She was always seeing someone new, felt like a number and when she tried to speak with them about her wishes for her labor and delivery was dismissed and told she didn't know what she was doing so she should just listen to them. Ashley had been educating herself greatly about her options and ultimately decided at 28 weeks to switch to a midwife with the option to deliver in hospital or a birthing center. She and her husband felt that a midwife in a hospital setting was the best of both worlds for them and she continued her care very happily with her new provider. Her labor and delivery with Charlotte went very well and they have a wonderful breastfeeding relationship as well. Ashley says that we live in a society that feels that becoming a mother and turning into a new person after you have a baby is a bad thing, there's something wrong with that think she says. Our lives change, our bodies change, of course we change and it's time that we learn to embrace that.
