Crystal Kostick

January 19, 2014 in 4th Trimester Bodies

The darling Crystal Kostick and 6 month old, Madeline Jane. Crystal had a wonderful, healthy pregnancy and went into labor at 37 weeks. She was 6 cm upon arrival to the hospital and was hopeful for the natural birth she had planned for. Unfortunately, she stalled out at 6 cm and ended up having Pitocin and an epidural. Madeline started showing signs of distress and ended up needed vacuum assistance. She was not breathing when she was born and had to be rushed to the NICU to be intubated and resuscitated. Madeline started having seizures and ended up needing a transfer to the local Children's hospital to stay in the NICU for several weeks before she was released to go home. It was determined that Madeline has Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy and microcephaly but the exact cause is still unknown. Crystal was told that Madeline's brain damage could be limiting but with medicine she hasn't had any seizures since coming home and while she has some slight motor delays, physical and occupational therapy have been helping her along.
