The amazing Dana King with her son Charlie (3 months). Dana and her partner conceived unexpectedly just after they got engaged and were both quite upset for the first month or so before they decided to just role with it. They decided to keep their wedding date and moved forward with preparations while also planning for a baby. Dana was 7 months pregnant when they wed and her pregnancy both before and after went very well. They had chose to have the support of midwives and deliver in hospital and labor started without any interventions. Dana had hoped to avoid interventions but after realizing her labor pattern was contractions every 5 minutes for three minutes long and her midwife told her to expect that to continue for days she decided to get an epidural. Whether it was the epidural taking the edge off or if Dana was already in transition she will never know but almost immediately after she felt the urge to push and had a very calm birth.
Charlie was very colicky for his first 10 weeks but has become much more calm and alert recently which is a welcome reprieve for Dana. Breastfeeding has gone very well and though Dana loathes pumping she's content to continue to provide milk for Charlie as she's returned to work. Dana says that motherhood is so incredibly different from the life that she was accustomed to both experientially and physically. It's been an adjustment that she hopes to continue to settle into.
