The amazing Devon Humphrey with her son Archer (10 months). Devon very much wanted to be fit when she was pregnant. She kickboxed and researched mindful birthing and meditating. Her water broke at term and she labored for 12 hours. She flipped a coin which determined that she got an epidural, soon after she spiked a fever and Archer's heart was decelerating so she was prepped for an emergency cesarean. Devon woke up in recovery not knowing what had happened and found that Archer had been given formula. As a breastfeeding advocate, she was very upset and pushed to get him nursing. At 4 weeks, her cesarean opened and it was determined that she had MRSA. She had to be quarantined and away from Archer for 4 days. During that time, doctors told her to stop nursing and one even threw away her milk. She was able to get a wound vac and a few weeks later, her incision opened again. She had to undergo surgery to clear out the infection and heal for several more weeks. Every step of the way she was told to stop breastfeeding that it was taxing her body but she refused to quit and hopes to at make it to at least one year. Through her arduous recovery, Devon has been forced to be sedentary and as a result of that and her body holding onto weight while breastfeeding she's experienced a lot of physical change. She chose to participate to embrace and celebrate herself.
