The wonderful Jessica Chambers with her youngest daughter Hazel (5 mo). Jessica is also mother to Carly (20). Her first pregnancy was under less than ideal circumstances when she was just 16. She had a healthy pregnancy though she lost some weight at the beginning due to morning sickness. She felt uninformed and not fully respected due to her age and her daughter was ultimately born with forceps and vacuum assistance after a long labor. She was able to breastfeed for 5 months but feels she missed on a lot with her first because she had to go to school and work to support them. She was determined to do things differently the second time around and has taken a different approach both to birth and motherhood. She had another healthy pregnancy other than morning sickness and sought the care of midwives. She labored at home for quite some time before going to her midwife to be checked. She was only 1cm dilated so she told her she could go home or head to the hospital. Jessica chose to go to the hospital because her baby was low and she was in quite a lot of pain, which was a great choice as Hazel was born just two hours later without any medication or intervention. Breastfeeding has gone very well this time around and Jessica has been able to transition to part time employment so she can spend more time with her baby. She has welcomed the opportunity to embrace herself and her relationship with her little one.
