The phenomenal Kelly Yount and 5 month old Maddox. Kelly is a yoga instructor and went into her pregnancy very fit. She was healthy and active throughout and went into labor in a very intentional way. She labored in the evening and went to the hospital after spending some time with herself and on the way there was almost hit by a drunk driver. When she finally got there it was very different than she thought and trauma from past sexual abuse she thought she had fully worked through resurfaced. Her labor stalled out and she was sent home. Two days later she returned ready to birth her baby and though she had hoped for a natural birth consented to an epidural at her midwife and doula's urging as she was so exhausted. She continued to labor and then they stopped her contractions due to Maddox's heart rate dipping. Kelly did not want a cesarean or a vacuum extraction and the doctor finally helped to get the baby out by pulling with forceps along with Kelly's husband Soren. Maddox was born healthy except for a few scratches on his head. He had a jaundice and heart issue scar shortly after birth but is doing beautifully today. Kelly said through all of this, "I've learned that I'm strong, I've learned that I'm weak. I just need to find that balance".
