The darling Katie Decker with her son Aaren (5.5) and daughter Alyce (2.5). Katie is also 32 weeks pregnant with baby number three. Katie had a healthy pregnancy with Aaren but her labor and delivery were quite traumatic. Aaren had been measuring large so they decided to induce. When they broke her water she got a membrane infection and she had a fever throughout her entire labor. They tried to place an epidural but her body burned up the medicine and they placed another that didn't work. He still wasn't coming down and her OB had to reach in up to her elbow to attempt to turn him. And then she had to reach in to attempt to turn him again. Still Aaren needed help and had to be delivered with the help of forceps. He was bruised and had a few cuts but was otherwise okay. Katie was worried that she was going to die during delivery and her husband was also quite traumatized by the experience. Katie had three third degree tears in different locations and a difficult recovery. She was determined to breastfeed Aaren and they were able to have a wonderful nursing experience. It took some time to be open to trying again and when they decided to go for it, Katie told her OB that even if she had to schedule an elective cesarean she wanted to have an entirely different experience. She was anxious and scared about what birth would be like this time but had a wonderful healing experience. She opted for an epidural because she was still pretty fearful but things went really well. Her birth with Alyce was only 4 hours while she'd labored for over 20 with Aaren. The experience was very healing and Alyce had a wonderful breastfeeding relationship as well. Katie had initially wanted to have a homebirth with her third and final baby but there were some concerns that led to her staying with her OB she says she is much more calm and at peace this pregnancy and is so hopeful for another wonderful labor and delivery.
