The wonderful Reina Wolke Hinson with her son Aiden (4 months). Reina had a healthy pregnancy and was able to remain active and running until the end of her second trimester. Her mom gave birth to her at home and while homebirth wasn’t an option for her she wanted to try to do things as naturally as possible. Her water broke but labor hadn’t quite started yet so she headed into hospital. They allowed her to wait for about 5 hours to see if anything started moving and when it didn’t, started pitocin. Things progressed slowly but after about 24 hours she was still at a 5. They turned up the pitocin but Aiden’s heart rate began to dip and she still hadn’t progressed beyond a 6. The decision was made to deliver via cesarean, Aiden was born healthy and Reina’s recovery went well. Breastfeeding was quite a struggle at first but ultimately, they hit their groove and are doing great. Reina spoke volumes about how beautiful motherhood is but also so difficult. It’s a lot more work and a much greater change than anyone lets on. It’s so hard and so wonderful.
