The stunning and strong Sara Ervin with her 9 month old son Roman. Sara grew up in a military family so she's called many places home. She is the eldest of three girls and her mother, who is Korean, suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. Because of her mother's severe mental illness, Sara had a very difficult upbringing. She took a lot of her anger and psychosis out on Sara. Sara's younger sister was "more beautiful and white looking" and by the age of 8 her mother had labeled her a whore. When she hit 100 lbs her mom told her she was too fat. She hated her body and her appearance.
Separately, Sara has hormonal issues that led her to believe she could never get pregnant which was fine because she never wanted to be a mom and risk repeating her mother's mental illness. She had a LEEP procedure for precancerous cells on her cervix and a few months later started feeling very sick. She thought she had the flu or that the precancerous cells had come back and then found out she was pregnant. She didn't know how to feel about her baby and was fearful her whole pregnancy but had planned for a childbirth as natural as possible. She had an epidural and the vaginal birth she desired. Despite all of her fear and reservations Sara says the second Roman hit her chest she fell in love, and her life and herself as a person was totally changed.
Sara says that she never showed emotions other than anger previously and now she able to feel and love and cry. She says she used to judge other parents with crying children or those who breastfed in public, and now she feels for them and is the first to feed her baby when and where he needs to. It is amazing to see her transformation and incredible connection with her son.
