The amazing Janel Cruz with her daughter Quinn (3.5). Janel was able to conceive without any difficulty and had a very healthy pregnancy. She very much enjoyed being pregnant and found that she and her husband became differently bonded through the process. They found a wonderful midwife and planned a homebirth, but Janel ended up going post-dates and ultimately had to deliver in the hospital. She wasn't progressing, and Quinn began to have difficulty. After consulting with her midwife, she decided it was best to deliver via cesarean before things became emergent. Janel tried to initiate breastfeeding but struggled due to poor support. After pumping exclusively and realizing that she was constantly pumping and passing off breastmilk rather than holding and bonding with her daughter, she made the decision to stop. Janel wants to be a role model for her daughter, and while she doesn't currently feel as comfortable in her skin as she'd like to, she is working to change her internal dialogue.
