Maysa's pregnancy was a bit of surprise so it took Karla a bit longer to get used to. She was happy, and excited, but the pregnancy was rough on her physically, as well. Karla found herself sick and in a lot of pain throughout but everything went away when she gave birth. Maysa arrived very quickly in hospital without any medication or interventions and latched right away without any issues. Karla says that she's learned to be more laid back after having three kids and everyone has benefited from going with the flow a bit more.
Healing took longer this time and Karla says that six weeks in she's still healing but she's been able to adjust to three children and return to work fairly seamlessly. Baby wearing has helped greatly in Karla feeling like she can spend time with her and keep her close while also giving her older children attention.
Karla says that Maysa brought her back to share this chapter of her story. She wants her baby to be included in the movement bucking social norms and addressing some many of the issues that will ultimately affect her life as a woman. Karla has struggled with infertility, disordered eating, poor body image and self esteem in her past, all of which she felt shouldn't be talked about at some point in time. She's grateful to know that there are now platforms challenging that and shifting the dialogue for our sons and daughters.
