The wonderful Kristy Harrington and her youngest son Zayer (2.5). Kristy is also mother to Shelby (24), Mackensie (22), Zenaveve (15), and Zephyn (7), she also fosters her niece Bella (9). Kristy also lost a pregnancy to miscarraige in the early second trimester in November 2004.
Kristy has participated in project previously. First in Boston with her extended family: http://www.4thtrimesterbodiesproject.com/gallery-1/2016/2/22/the-holowach-famil
and in NYC with her two boys: http://www.4thtrimesterbodiesproject.com/gallery-1/2016/3/2/kristy-harrington
Kristy chose to participate for a third time to support a movement she strongly believes in. As the mother of five, it is important for her to model positive body image and self love even if she struggles with her own sometimes. She hopes that movement's like ours help to shift the dialogue and societal expectations and that her daughter's experiences with pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding are less stigmatized than our generation's have been.
Kristy breastfed her first baby at just 16 years old and is approaching three years of successfully nursing her youngest. It is a relationship she values greatly and wishes was more normalized in our culture. She's committed to nursing her son until he's ready to wean but notices herself juggling the judgments placed on "extended" breastfeeding relationships as if there is something taboo about them. Kristy recently found a lump in her breast that needs to be further explored by her medical team. The unknowns brought by this discovery have her both concerned and more committed to celebrating where she is in this moment with her body and breastfeeding relationship.
