The phenomenal Danica Hedin with her son Orion Tomasz (21 months). Danica is also mom to Freya Hope who was stillborn October 7th 2011. Danica's parents were told that she had less than a 5% chance of surviving due to facial birth defects, she's had 20 surgeries since she was 3 months old leaving her with plenty of battle scars. And she hasn't just survived but she's thrived into an amazing woman who always knew she wanted to be a mother. Danica became pregnant with her first child in 2011. She found out about halfway through her pregnancy that she was having a girl but that her daughter had Trisomy 9 Mosaic syndrome and may not survive. She was advised to terminate her pregnant but chose to carry her daughter for as long as she could. Danica had been hospitalized a couple of times with complications and just a week after a hospitalization where a nurse encourage her to really think about what she wanted to do once her daughter arrived, she learned she had passed. Danica was induced and gave birth to Freya at 28 weeks gestation. She held her afterwards but they brought Freya to her all wrapped up and she never saw her face. Danica had thought that because of her medical history and loss that had been her only chance at pregnancy. Just after her 30th birthday, she learned that she was pregnant with her Rainbow Baby and was over the moon. Danica says she always knew she was having a boy and was thrilled when it was confirmed. On April 7th, 2013 exactly a year and a half, almost to the minute that her daughter passed away, Danica gave birth to a healthy beautiful boy. Danica says that she felt ashamed of her stretch marks at first but then realized that they were proudly earned from my body doing the most extraordinary thing of all; creating a life. Her life has changed in more ways then she every could have known and she now cherishes the little things in life and with her son both good and bad.
