The amazing Sara Hall Master with her daughter Saavi (5 months). Sara waited for a while to consider getting pregnant because she knew that it was something she'd need to jump into fully without reservation and there was no turning back once she was. Sara was very sick the first three months of her pregnancy and ended up loosing a lot of weight. However, once the constant sickness passed she found pregnancy to be enjoyable and began to notice that she felt much more comfortable with her body while pregnant than she had before. She suddenly felt that she had permission to look the way she did and eat whatever she wanted which also highlighted an array of food hang ups she had not necessarily been aware of before. Sara has found that she's mostly shifted back to her pre-pregnancy mind frame in this regard now that she's on the other side but does try to remind herself of the comfort and freedom she felt while pregnanct. Saavi's arrival was swift and uncomplicated and much less painful than Sara had imagined. She spoke of the gap in care between pregnancy related maternal care which is baby and maternal health focused and pediatric care which is baby focused without much regard for the mother and felt a lapse between the two when it came breastfeeding support. Sara had the foresight to know to hire a lactation consultant and had the support of her husband but had difficulty learning to nurse her daughter and wishes there more access to such help in those few days postpartum when new mothers need the most support and guidance. Sara looked forward to documenting this time and these moments between herself and her daughter and is separately striving to help other working mothers. She introduced a bill which just passed the house in Illinois today to mandate that all local airports have nursing mothers rooms with space to pump in all terminals, beyond security. The bill has also been picked up to be pushed nationally! We'll continue to update with new information as she has it!
