The beautiful Delfina Baca and Cora (12 months).
Delfina says that she generally goes with the flow and as a nurse herself, knew plenty so she never had a birthing preference or filled out a birth plan. She had seen four of her nieces and nephews born and figured that there wasn't any reason her labor would go differently. Unfortunately, that assumption wasn't correct, and she had a very long, lengthy induction that eventually ended in a cesarean birth. Still, she was thrilled to meet her baby girl after 70 hours of labor. "Things started slowly and all went down hill from there, graciously my baby was as perfect as a little peach through the whole thing. I had to have multiple procedures, multiple times and because I was high risk had to be monitored the whole time, which as a plus size mom was a nightmare".
Delfina was discharged from the hospital with a wound vac and continued to have dressing changes until her baby was 8 weeks old. "My experience was not like any birth story I had witnessed but it was mine! Would I have loved to change it, yes and no. Ultimately my body amazed me throughout the whole process and that is why I had to do this project. I feel like in a world where you are made to feel bad or shamed for being plus size or not perfect I want people to see that we are are people to. We want the same things, our bodies are just as amazing. I want my daughter to know that no matter what her body is a temple and no one can make her feel bad for who she is or what she looks like."
