The stunning Sarah Daggett with her son Cyrus (15 months). Sarah is also bonus mom of three - Kya (14), Kian (12) and Boston (6). Sarah entered the lives of her husband's children before she ever really considered being a mother herself. She says she is grateful that he never forced a relationship but allowed her to forge her own relationship through friendship, then trust, then as a parental figure over time. She had been fairly ambivalent about having her own children for some time but ultimately realized that she may regret never trying more than giving it a go. They sat down the big kids before they chose to move forward and were excited to hear that they were all thrilled at the possibility of a new sibling. They began trying and Sarah was surprised that after 10 years on birth control they were able to conceive so quickly. Her pregnancy went well and without complication. She planned for a hospital birth and was openminded about pain medication and labor progression. She labored naturally for some time and when she felt like she needed some pain relief opted for IV medication to take the edge off. Unfortunately, because she hadn't eaten in so long and was so tired she almost immediately got sick and ultimately fainted. She came to quickly and decided to have an epidural to help with the pain instead. She still had a lot of function of her legs and was able to move around a bit. Soon it was apparent her son was coming, and coming quickly. She pushed for just a few minutes before she got him out and was able to bring him right to her chest. They decided to delay cord clamping and she says that her heart was instantly full. Sarah's placenta wasn't fully detaching and they needed to call in a specialist to help extract it. She ended up losing a lot of blood but was able to avoid a transfusion. When they had her get up to use the rest room after birth Sarah fainted again and was out for some time before coming to. She knew she was in the right place and was able to recover without further incident. Breastfeeding was quite painful at first and it took the first two weeks to get their latch down but nursing has continued to go really well. Sarah pumped when she returned to work and was surprised when after some practice with fresh milk and a bottle her baby wouldn't take thawed breastmilk while she was away. She eventually discovered she has high lipase and he was simply refusing the taste.
Sarah says there is so much bombardment about breastfeeding in public and she never thought about the fact that someone would be offended. She wants to normalize breastfeeding and bodies, support women and join a movement of amazing mothers doing just that. She has done burlesque and roller derby since having a baby and wants other women to feel free to find their confidence and strength.
