The wonderful Jennifer Hall with her son Nathan (17 months). Jennifer and her husband tried to conceive for about 6 months before they were successful. She had a relatively uneventful pregnancy but was diagnosed with borderline high blood pressure and pregnancy-related hypertension. There was also concern about Nathan having an enlarged heart at one point, but they saw a specialist and everything checked out okay. Because of her blood pressure issues and the fact that Nathan's head was measuring very large, her doctor didn't want her to go too far post-dates and scheduled an induction for the week past her due date. The hospital wasn't ready for her when expected. When they finally were, they attemped induction was three times, with three different meds but nothing worked in keeping her labor consistent and progressive. It was determined that Jennifer would need to deliver via cesarean, and she was prepped but then made to wait several times due to other emergent births. They finally were able to run into the OR and deliver her baby. They had to do compressions, use vacuum assistance and widen her incision by an inch on each side to get Nathan out and he was born blue and not breathing. Thankfully, they were able to get him to perk up, and he's a healthy little guy today. Jennifer had planned to breastfeed but was never able to produce enough milk, so she's supplemented 50% with formula but is still happily nursing Nathan today. At 14 months postpartum, it was determined that she had hypothyroidism and once that has been under control she's been able to produce more milk than before.
